the real masareal

Weeee! My morning got perked up when after borrowing a cd from Lola HPV, she handed me a small package of the famous Didang's Masareal from Mandaue, Cebu! Wrapped in white bond paper, masareal is made of crushed peanuts and sugar, then shaped into rectangular bars. Aysus, kanamit!

And according to this link, it was created in 1914 which means two years from now the families of the creator can celebrate its hundredth year! Cool eh? Hope they'll create the biggest masareal in the Philippines, worthy of a Guinness record! If this happens, count me in! Yeah!

Lola HPV, however, mentioned that Bacolod also has its version. Hmmn... Can't wait to look, sample and compare it to the original stuff. That'll be another nutty adventure. :)

P.S. Masareal's shelf life lasts for a week. So don't be guilty; be merciless, nutty foodie! Mwahahaha!
